Ulf's Longstriders 2013-11-20

Gloranthan Hero Band: Ulf's Longstriders

A lost band of mythic heroes who took the wrong turn coming home from a quest.

The Inner World of Glorantha lies in a broad span of earth and sea under the sky from dawn's mansions to sunset's, from eternal winter to unendurable desert and steaming seas. Glorantha is home to the mortal races of humans, trolls, and ducks, and dragonewts and dwarves among the destiny-bound, and is the battleground between Cosmos and Chaos, among holy wizard-knights, divine champions, and callers of spirits.

When the need is great, the heroes of Glorantha assemble into bands to re-enact the holy myths of creation and the struggles of their gods and ancestors, and in retracing the paths of myth, to capture a spark of divinity for themselves and for the people they defend.

The reward for such a heroquest may be great indeed. The risks are great, and even those with the strength, skill, and grace to pass every challenge of the myth may yet stumble in finding their way back from the Hero Plane into the Inner World.

This is one group who achieved the Lightbringers' Quest, bringing a fallen hero back from the Underworld to aid their cause. They returned to the Hero Plane to rescue a trapped companion, succeeded, but on their way climbing up from the Underworld, they took a wrong turn and ended up on the Stair.

The Dustkeeper 2013-11-06

The Dustkeeper

Dust to dust, as they say. But when the dust won't stay dust, needs must I make it that way.

Once a happy-go-lucky younger son, he had the mantle of responsibility thrust upon him to defend his realm from arcane creatures of dissolution. Taking the power upon himself, he has been defender, avenger, and fiery cleanser of corruption using its own tools. True to form, he has taken his role as protector and destroyer with serious attention, but with a light heart and attitude.

Not knowing his father or mother, not recalling his life before he became a knight defender of the Forest of Brocéliande, the Chevalier finds himself a waif in a vaster forest when he is initiated into the mighty labyrinth of the Grand Stair. Bracing his courage with his knightly ideals, with his faithful horse, his silvery armor and his singing sword, the Chevalier prepares himself for a broader stage. And yet he is attentive to the call of his sovereign Blanchemal, to whom he owes much, and more than he knows.

Kubera the Builder 2013-10-22

Kubera the Builder

Whose buildings and artifacts carry the meaning and power of their builder's intentions.

There, in the center of renunciation and abandonment, withdrawal and departure, are the five rooms named Memory, Fear, Heartbreak, Dust, and Despair, and this place was built by Kubera the Fat, who cared not a tittle for any of these sentiments, but who, as a friend of Lord Kalkin, had done this construction at the behest of Candi the Fierce, sometimes known as Durga and as Kali.

From Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light.

Kickaha, Trickster of the World of Tiers 2013-10-08

Kickaha (Paul Janus Finnegan)

An interpretation of Philip Jose Farmer's World of Tiers character.

Born Paul Janus Finnegan, an Earth native who happened by chance upon a Gate to the World of Tiers. Paul found himself in a grand version of a heroic playground, where his wit and physical skills stood him in good stead, and his charm earned him loving admirers. His restlessness (and habit of making enemies) led him to wander the World of Tiers, setting up a new name and identity on every inhabited tier. He calls himself Kickaha, after the name of a trickster god on a level of wide plains contended over by centaurs and mounted tribesmen.
